Wizard Name Generator
A wizard's name is half their reputation. Alaric the Arcane, Mordric the Starweaver, Seraphina the Runebound — the epithet tells you what they specialize in before they've opened their mouth. A good wizard name balances an ancient-sounding first name with a title that hints at years of research and at least one dangerous experiment.
Use this generator for D&D wizard, sorcerer, or warlock PCs, NPC archmages hoarding forbidden tomes, the villain of your fantasy novel, and MMO spellcasters (WoW, FFXIV, ESO). The Classic and Epic styles include evocative titles; the Short style gives you a clean first name alone.
Getting the wizard name right
- The epithet is a specialty. "The Runebound" implies runes; "the Stormcaller" implies weather magic. Let it shape your character's magic school.
- Middle-aged wizards have older names. Younger apprentices might go by shorter, modernized versions until they earn their epithet.
- Villains use titles, heroes use names. If your antagonist always goes by "the Veiled," revealing their true name can be a dramatic beat.
