Tavern & Inn Name Generator

Every fantasy setting needs its taverns, and every good tavern needs a name worth remembering. "The Gilded Stag." "The Broken Crown." "The Pig and Whistle." A tavern name should sound like it's been painted on a swinging wooden sign for four generations and survived at least one bar fight.

Use this generator when your D&D party walks into a new town and needs a name by the time the innkeeper speaks, for building out fantasy campaign cities, naming the social hub of your novel, and branding the pub in your TTRPG worldbuilding doc. Names come in classic formats: "The Adjective Noun," "The Noun and Noun," or the minimalist "The Noun" (Short style).

Designing a tavern around its name

  • The name implies the vibe. "The Drunken Sailor" is seedy. "The Gilded Stag" is upscale. Let it shape the decor.
  • A real story behind the name. Someone painted that sign. Why a stag? Why gilded? Answer in one sentence — players will ask.
  • Reuse across campaigns. A tavern with the same name in three different cities is a fun world-building tell: franchise? coincidence? conspiracy?
