Dwarf Name Generator
Dwarf names are hammered, not whispered. Hard consonants, clan pride, and a last name that reads like an oath: Stonefist, Battlehammer, Ironfist. A dwarf's surname is as important as the first — it tells you which mountain hall they hail from and which grudges they might still hold.
Use this generator for D&D 5e dwarf fighters and clerics, fantasy novels with stout heroes, MMO characters (WoW, FFXIV, LOTRO), and DM-improvised names when your party wanders into an underground city. Names draw from classic fantasy conventions with Tolkien, Warhammer, and Norse-rooted influence.
What makes a good dwarf name?
- Hard sounds and short syllables. "Thoradin Ironfist" lands; "Aerelindel Silvermist" is an elf in disguise.
- Clan names do the work. A solid first name plus a clan name like "Battlehammer" instantly reads as dwarf.
- Lean into profession-based clans. Fireforge, Hammerhand, Bronzebeard — they tell you what the family has done for generations.
