Demon Name Generator
Demons are defined by their domain. "Belial, Lord of Hollow Bones" hits harder than just "Belial." Demon names in classic demonology pair a sharp, often Semitic-rooted name with a title (Lord, Prince, Duke) and a dominion that captures what they corrupt. "Prince of Withered Gardens." "Marquis of Gilded Lies."
Use this generator for D&D devil and demon encounters, infernal antagonists, warlock patrons, dark-fantasy horror fiction, occult-flavored tabletop NPCs, and boss encounters in any system. The Epic style always includes the full title-and-domain form; Short gives just a name; Classic is a mix.
Making demon names dangerous
- Don't say the full name. In horror and fantasy, speaking a demon's true name traditionally summons them. Have NPCs refuse to.
- The domain is the theme. "The Duke of Forgotten Names" should show up in a story where names matter. Match the demon to your plot.
- Lesser demons use nicknames. Save the full title for the big bad; use short names for their minions.
